Guideways are ground to tolerance allowing for a precise and permanent fitting of the wagon assembly. The radius is ground into the steel guides which increases the contact area along the bearing surface. This eliminates pre-mature wearing of the bearing and guides. The steel guides are mechanically dovetailed (not glued) into place. The carriage will never require adjustment due to its structure with arch ground steel slideways (developed by SCM). All classical SCM sliders come with a 10 year warranty on table guideway tolerances.
The Class SI 400EP uses the “EASY 3 UP PLUS” three axes programmer. This controls the position of the rip fence, raising and lowering of the main blade and scoring blade, in addition to the main blade and scoring blade tilt angle.
The double trunnion assembly for the blade tilting is part of the blade group casting. This eliminates the possibility of misalignment which exists when these parts are bolted in the place as some manufacturers do. Others used a small pivot pin to hold up the saw group. Direct shaft drive coupled with rack and pinion gearing allows smooth, angle adjustment of the saw blade.
CompeX (SCM patent), the self-adjustment system, automatically moves the squaring rule, when it is angled, to maintain the distance between the stops and the cutting line. The scoring blade height and tilt is controlled through the Easy 3 upper control panel. Adjusting the scoring set is quick and easy. Simply turn the dial to adjust the width of the score. Thissystem eliminates the need for shims and the constant adjustment they require. It is fully adjustable in 0.1 mm increments.
The programmable rip fence on the Class SI 400EP uses a THK guide system for extra durability and superior accuracy. The recirculating ball screw has a large 22 mm diameter, and is similar to those used on SCM’s CNC equipment. There is no magnetic strip; instead, this interface uses an encoder and it quickly moves the fence into position at a rate of 82 feet per minute. The fence can be excluded under the work table if needed.
