SCM Formula Structuring Machine - STR 62R

For a wide range of products such as floor, decking, doors or furniture elements, manufacturers are seeking to emphasize the natural grain of wood in order to obtain an antique or textured finish.

The STR 62R’s brush filaments abrade the softer wood fiber more than the harder ones, revealing the grain of the wood and leaving a surface in relief that can then be stained or filled for ceruse or a vast array of unique finishes. With a working width of 600 mm, a variable feed speed and working height of up to 300mm the STR 62R is the machine for you.

Structuring refers to surface modification where harder wood grain is raised while softer grains recede. This creates the impression that the wood is weathered, antique, vintage, or repurposed with a look that emphasizes the natural beauty of the wood.

This machine consists of two independent brushing units; the first unit (steel brush) is for roughing, while the second unit (tynex brush) is for finishing. Brushing with metal bristles roughens the wood zones while the secondary brushing with the tynex brush smooths the transitions and thereby gives the structure a softer, vintage appearance.

The degree of structuring can be changed by setting the working depth. Different degrees of finishes may also be obtained by changing out the type of brushes. Easily achieve an even structuring and pressure with the adjustable contact rollers at both ends of each brush.
