Durston 1312 Quad Jump Ringer - 143.202

The Durston 1312 Quad Jump Ringer is a professional jump ring making machine designed for jewelers and metalsmiths who need to mass produce jump rings efficiently. Compatible with a Foredom No. 30 style handpiece and flex shaft machine, this system lets you produce jump rings from soft, non-ferrous jewelry wire including gold, copper, and silver.

Wire as thick as 13 gauge (1.85 mm) can be used, and the inside diameter of finished rings ranges from 2.5 mm to 12 mm. Outside diameter will vary based on wire diameter. The most commonly used wire gauge in the jewelry industry for jump ring production is 0.8 mm – 1.0 mm.

The Quad Jump Ringer differs from the Durston Complete Jump Ringer in several key ways. It does not include a stand and instead uses a simple vise or bench-mounted hand coiler, making it a more economical option. It includes the same 20 mandrels and uses the same handpiece holder and high speed steel saw blade. A notable feature is the Quad Coil Holder β€” a 4-sided design that provides more precise angles for holding specific jump ring sizes.

The included mandrel set ranges from 2.5 mm (smallest) to 12 mm (largest) in 1/2 mm increments. Note that the three smallest mandrels β€” 2.5 mm, 3 mm, and 4 mm β€” are not drilled with holes. All other mandrels in the set are drilled with holes.

The Durston Quad Jump Ringer requires a Foredom No. 30 type handpiece and flex shaft machine. Flex shaft and handpiece are sold separately.

Q&A

Q: What is the Durston 1312 Quad Jump Ringer?
A: It is a professional jump ring production machine designed to rapidly coil and cut wire into uniform jump rings for jewelry making, chain production, and metalwork.

Q: What is it used for?
A: It is used to mass-produce consistent jump rings from soft non-ferrous metals like gold, silver, copper, and brass wire, improving speed and accuracy in jewelry production.

Q: What makes the Quad Jump Ringer different?
A: It features a unique four-sided (quad) coil holder, giving better stability and more precise control when cutting coils compared to simpler systems.

Q: What sizes can it produce?
A: It supports 20 mandrels ranging from about 2.5mm to 12mm, allowing a wide range of jump ring diameters for different jewelry applications.

Q: What wire can it handle?
A: It works with soft jewelry wire up to about 13 gauge (1.85mm), depending on material hardness.

Q: What equipment is needed to use it?
A: It is used with a flex shaft system (like Foredom or similar) and a No. 30-style handpiece, which powers the cutting process.

Q: Is it suitable for professional use?
A: Yes, it is designed for professional jewelry workshops, especially for chainmakers and production environments needing consistent output.

Q: What is the main benefit of this tool?
A: It dramatically improves speed, repeatability, and precision when producing jump rings, turning a slow manual task into efficient batch production.

Q: What is the key difference vs the β€œComplete Jump Ringer”?
A: The Quad version is more compact and lower-cost, using a bench or vice setup instead of a full stand system, but keeps most core functionality the same.

Maintenance Tips
  • Clean after every use – Remove metal shavings from the coil holder, mandrels, and cutting zone to maintain smooth cutting and prevent blade wear or binding.
  • Lubricate moving parts lightly – Apply Durston lubricant or light machine oil on the coil winder, mandrel shaft, and sliding components to reduce friction and ensure smooth winding.
  • Care for the saw blade system – Keep the HSS cutting blade sharp and correctly aligned in the arbor; replace it when cuts become rough or require extra force.
  • Check flex shaft compatibility & condition – Ensure the Foredom/Dremel-style handpiece runs smoothly at consistent speed; inspect the shaft for wear or stiffness regularly.
  • Secure mounting is critical – Always clamp the unit firmly to a bench or vise before operation to prevent vibration and maintain cutting accuracy.
  • Avoid over-tensioning wire – Do not force wire during coiling; smooth tension prevents mandrel damage and improves consistent coil formation.
  • Keep mandrels clean & organized – Store all 20 mandrels properly and avoid scratches or impacts that can affect ring diameter precision.
  • Prevent rust on steel parts – Lightly oil mandrels, cutter arbor, and exposed metal surfaces when storing in humid environments.
  • Inspect alignment regularly – Ensure coil holder, blade, and handpiece track are properly aligned for clean, uniform cuts.
  • Safe operation habit – Always allow the motor/blade to fully stop before removing the handpiece or adjusting coils.
