GE Q-Line THQL 15-Amp 1-Pole Dual Function Afci/Gfci Circuit Breaker - 71223234

The 2014 National Electric Code has mandated Ground Fault and Arc Fault circuit protection on many 15 Amp and 20 Amp kitchen and laundry circuits. GE's dual function circuit interrupter offers both Ground Fault and combination Arc Fault (GFCI and AFCI) protection in a simple to apply and cost-effective solution. GFCI protection guards against Ground Fault and is an effective means of preventing electrical shocks. GFCI circuit breakers accomplish this by detecting when current is leaking somewhere outside its intended path. If your body provides the path to ground for this leakage you could be burned, shocked or even electrocuted. AFCI protection guards against damage or fires which can result from arcing and sparking that can arise from deteriorated wires, poor connections and breaches in wire insulation. With more than 67,000 home fires claiming more than 485 lives and injuring 2,300 victims annually, the added safety provided by AFCI protection is an important step forward in reducing this risk.

Features
  • Provides Ground Fault and Arc Fault circuit protection

  • LED blinks on trip to show the last know trip condition

  • Automatic and continuous self-testing feature

  • GE DFCI has important features for assisting you or your electrician in troubleshooting a trip, should the DFCI trip, the yellow LED will blink to indicate the last known trip condition

  • Unit's last known trip condition via LED indicators appear for 5 seconds each time the DFCI is turned on for up to 30 days

  • Unit’s last known trip condition can be cleared by performing a series of functions provided in the instructions

  • DFCI has a Self-Test feature that meets a June 2015 requirement from UL on all Ground Fault circuit breakers

  • The warranty is one (1) year from first use or eighteen (18) months from delivery, whichever occurs first

What our Experts Think
  • Dual Protection in One Breaker
Combines AFCI (arc-fault) + GFCI (ground-fault) protection, helping reduce risk of electrical fires and shock from a single device.
  • Advanced Residential Safety Upgrade
Designed to meet modern code requirements for kitchens, laundry areas, bedrooms, and living spaces where enhanced protection is required.
  • Fast Fault Detection Technology
Continuously monitors circuit conditions and trips instantly when dangerous arc faults or leakage currents are detected, improving safety response time.
  • Self-Test Reliability System
Built-in automatic self-testing ensures ongoing protection integrity, reducing the risk of unnoticed failure over time.
  • Diagnostic LED Indicator
LED status light helps identify whether a trip was caused by arc fault or ground fault, simplifying troubleshooting and reset decisions.
  • Space-Saving 1-Pole Design
Fits standard GE Q-Line load centers while providing two protection systems in one breaker slot, helping maximize panel space.
  • Professional Installation Use
Intended for GE/ABB compatible residential panels, typically installed by licensed electricians for code-compliant wiring setups.
Q&A

Q: What does this circuit breaker do?
A: It provides dual protection by combining AFCI (arc-fault protection) and GFCI (ground-fault protection) in one device to reduce fire and shock risks.

Q: What is AFCI protection for?
A: It detects dangerous electrical arcs caused by damaged wiring or loose connections and helps prevent electrical fires.

Q: What is GFCI protection for?
A: It detects ground faults (current leakage) and quickly shuts off power to prevent electric shock.

Q: Where is this breaker commonly used?
A: Typically required in residential circuits like bedrooms, kitchens, living areas, laundry rooms, and other code-required locations.

Q: Is it compatible with GE panels?
A: Yes, it is designed for GE Q-Line / PowerMark load centers and compatible ABB/GE panels.

Q: Does it have safety or testing features?
A: Yes, it includes a self-test function and LED indicators that help identify trip conditions and improve troubleshooting.

Q: What wire sizes does it support?
A: It typically accepts #14–8 AWG copper and #12–8 AWG aluminum conductors.

Q: Is it certified for safety standards?
A: Yes, it is UL listed, NEMA approved, and ANSI certified for residential electrical safety use.

Q: Why choose a dual-function AFCI/GFCI breaker?
A: It saves panel space and provides two critical safety protections in one device, meeting modern electrical code requirements while improving overall home safety.

Maintenance Tips
  • Test monthly: Press the TEST button to verify both AFCI (arc fault) and GFCI (ground fault) protection are working properly.
  • Reset safely after trips: If it trips, fully switch it OFF then ON to reset—don’t force it halfway.
  • Keep panel dry and clean: Prevent moisture, dust, and insects inside the load center to avoid false trips or corrosion.
  • Inspect wiring annually: Have a licensed electrician check for loose neutrals, burnt terminals, or overheating signs.
  • Avoid overloading the circuit: Stay within 15-amp limit to prevent nuisance tripping and heat stress.
  • Check LED indicators: Use trip lights to identify whether the issue is AFCI (arc) or GFCI (ground fault).
  • Do not mix incompatible panels: Ensure it is installed only in compatible GE/ABB load centers to maintain safety certification.
  • Schedule periodic professional inspection: Dual-function breakers are safety-critical and benefit from yearly electrical review.
