GE Q-Line THQL 20-amp 1-Pole Gfci Circuit Breaker - 71223237

The GE 20 Amp Single Pole Ground Fault Circuit Breaker with Self-Test has a tin-plated copper stab to create a reliable, permanent and corrosion resistant connection. It is used as a substitute to GFCI wall outlets allowing the customer to know exactly where to go (back to electrical panel) in the event of a tripped circuit. No more searching for the correct wall outlet to reset. The Self-Test functionality is a UL requirement on all GFCI devices commencing in June 2015. This variant of the GFCI ensures its ground circuitry is functioning properly by automatically running diagnostic testing on a periodic basis. Should a problem be detected, the circuit breaker will trip and will need to be replaced.

Features
  • Ground Fault protection for indoor and outdoor use

  • Automatically performs Self-Test every 16 minutes

  • Includes manual "push-to-test" button

  • Unit provides protection against overloads, short circuits and ground faults

  • Detects very low levels of electrical current leakage (ground faults) and acts quickly to shut off power, preventing serious shock

  • Class A 5mA Ground Fault circuit interrupter

  • Wire range is #14-8 AWG CU/#12-8 AWG AL

  • UL Listed # E11592

What our Experts Think
  • Critical safety protection: Provides ground fault (GFCI) protection, helping prevent electric shock in high-risk circuits
  • 20-amp single-pole design: Ideal for standard residential 120V branch circuits such as kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor outlets
  • Built-in self-test feature: Automatically checks functionality to ensure continuous protection and code compliance
  • Panel-mounted reset convenience: Trips directly at the breaker panel, making it easier to locate and reset faults quickly
  • Reliable GE Q-Line compatibility: Designed for GE load centers (THQL series) for secure fit and proper electrical performance
  • Fast fault detection: Shuts off power immediately when leakage is detected, improving user safety and system protection
  • Durable electrical construction: Built for long-term reliability in residential and light commercial installations

Q: Does it require special installation?
A: Yes. It must be installed in a compatible panel and should be installed by a qualified electrician for safety.

Maintenance Tips
  • Test monthly using the built-in “Test” button to ensure proper ground-fault protection.
  • Keep panel dry and clean—moisture or dust can affect breaker performance and safety.
  • Avoid frequent tripping causes like overloads or faulty appliances; investigate root issues instead of resetting repeatedly.
  • Ensure correct panel compatibility (GE Q-Line / THQL load centers only) for safe operation and proper fit.
  • Do not mix incompatible breaker brands in the same panel to prevent overheating or poor contact.
  • Check wiring tightness during maintenance (power OFF) to avoid arcing or heat buildup.
  • Inspect for discoloration, burning smell, or heat—replace immediately if any signs appear.
  • Keep labeling clear in panel to quickly identify GFCI-protected circuits during troubleshooting.
  • Do not force reset after repeated trips—this indicates a wiring fault or ground leakage that must be fixed.
