Voile HyperDrifter Alpine Touring Skis - 5001-171-2526

More than fourteen seasons ago, the original Voile Drifter wrote a new chapter in backcountry ski lore. We're paying homage to the FAT ski that started it all with the new HyperDrifter. It boasts a mighty shovel, an early-rise camber profile, and a long running length in our ultra-lightweight Paulownia and carbon-weave construction. All of these features contribute to its astonishing capability when breaking trail and, along with its impressive overall width, make the experienced backcountry skier’s deepest powder dreams come true.

Don't let the fat shape fool you. The HyperDrifter is a directional carving ski with a powerful edge-to-edge feel and excellent stability at speed. It has the same DNA as our entire Hyper series, so you know it's light enough to go the distance and stiff enough to hold up on hardpack. This is a ski for the rider who wants a true all-mountain powder board that they can still get to the top of the mountain without a massive effort.

What our Experts Think
  • Ultralight alpine touring ski designed for deep powder missions and high-efficiency backcountry travel.
  • Carbon-reinforced construction keeps weight extremely low while maintaining impressive downhill stability.
  • Wide, powder-focused platform delivers exceptional flotation in deep and variable soft snow.
  • Rocker profile enhances surfy turn initiation, maneuverability, and effortless handling in bottomless conditions.
  • Designed for long approaches and big vertical days where uphill efficiency is critical.
  • Stable enough for committed descents despite its lightweight touring focus.
  • Predictable flex keeps the ski playful and forgiving in soft snow while still feeling controlled at speed.
  • A top-tier choice for powder hunters prioritizing float, speed, and ultralight performance.

Q&A

Q: What is the Voile HyperDrifter Alpine Touring Ski designed for?
A: An ultralight backcountry touring ski built for deep powder, big-mountain descents, and efficient long-distance touring.

Q: What makes the HyperDrifter different from the standard Drifter?
A: It uses Voile’s Hyper Series construction with a paulownia wood core and carbon layup, significantly reducing weight while keeping the Drifter’s wide, powder-focused shape.

Q: How does it perform in powder?
A: Excellent. The wide platform, rockered tip and tail, and tapered shape provide strong float and a surfy, stable feel in deep snow.

Q: How does it handle uphill touring?
A: Very efficiently. Despite its wide powder profile, the ultralight construction makes it surprisingly manageable for long ascents in deep backcountry terrain.

Q: Is it good in variable or tracked snow?
A: It performs best in soft snow, but still offers decent control and stability for its size in mixed backcountry conditions.

Q: Who is the Voile HyperDrifter best for?
A: Advanced backcountry skiers who prioritize deep powder performance but still want an ultralight ski for long touring missions.

Maintenance Tips
  • Wax the lightweight sintered base regularly to maintain glide and prevent drying, especially in cold, dry snow conditions.
  • Keep edges sharp and clean for reliable control in deep snow, variable terrain, and firm exit sections.
  • Dry skis thoroughly after each tour—especially edges, tips, tails, and binding zones—to prevent rust and corrosion.
  • Inspect binding mounts and hardware frequently; retighten screws if any loosening occurs after long or aggressive use.
  • Repair base scratches and core shots promptly with P-Tex to preserve speed and structural integrity.
  • Brush off snow and ice buildup from topsheet and bindings after use to reduce moisture and unnecessary weight.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to heat or direct sunlight (cars, storage areas), which can affect camber and base materials.
  • Apply a storage wax before off-season storage and keep skis in a cool, dry environment.
