Voile Objective BC Touring Ski - 5220-164-2324

The Voile Objective BC Touring Ski is designed for touring in variable snow conditions to help save your skis and skins from glue glops. The Voile Traction Pattern Base makes these skis the perfect companion for long tours on XC trails and on-piste dawn patrols. Though you'll still need a pair of skins on steeper slopes, the traction base will save you time and energy through rolling terrain where you need some traction but you don't want to take skins on and off.

The lightweight aspen wood core makes this ski ideal for springtime mountaineering adventures. Although the Objective BCs are unlikely to replace your pow boards, they will be your efficient objective checker for making those smooth carves down short and long runs. The ski is stiff enough to hold an edge on that East Coast ice but fun enough for any PNW Patrol Race.

Splitboard friends beware, you will be left in the dust by your Objective donning ski partners, as there’s little need for skins most of the time. This is also a great first ski for splitboarders, especially ones who already have a lightweight ski boot.

Voile Objective Skis mounted with telemark bindings or quiver killers are not covered under the Voile factory warranty. *The Traction Pattern base does not eliminate the need to carry skins.

What our Experts Think
  • Designed as a high-efficiency backcountry touring ski focused on long approaches, firm snow performance, and controlled descents in variable terrain.
  • Uses a lightweight paulownia + double carbon construction to keep weight low while maintaining enough stiffness for technical alpine touring.
  • ~80–84mm waist (length dependent) prioritizes uphill efficiency, quick edge engagement, and stability on narrow skin tracks.
  • Features an early-rise tip with long camber underfoot, improving float in soft snow while preserving strong edge hold on firmer conditions.
  • Directional, carving-oriented shape with minimal taper gives precise, predictable control rather than a playful or surfy feel.
  • Includes a traction pattern (BC) base, reducing the need for frequent skin transitions on rolling terrain (but still not a full replacement for skins).
  • Excels in alpine traverses, spring missions, windboard, and long-distance touring, where efficiency matters more than deep powder performance.
  • Known for being ultralight, direct, and “race-inspired” in feel, rewarding strong technique over forgiving flex.

Q&A

Q: What makes the Voile Objective BC Touring Ski unique?
A: The Objective BC is a lightweight, skimo-inspired touring ski that sits between Voile’s UltraVector and WSP lines, designed for fast ascents, long approaches, and efficient travel in variable backcountry terrain.

Q: Who is the Voile Objective BC best suited for?
A: It’s ideal for ski mountaineers and long-distance tourers who prioritize speed, efficiency, and low weight over deep powder performance, especially on alpine routes and mixed terrain objectives.

Q: How does it perform on the climb?
A: Extremely efficient—its ultralight paulownia core and double carbon construction reduce fatigue, while the traction-pattern (BC) base helps with glide on rolling terrain and approaches.

Q: Do I still need climbing skins?
A: Yes. The scaled base improves movement on gentle terrain, but skins are still required for steeper or sustained ascents.

Q: How does it perform on the descent?
A: It delivers a firm, directional, carving-focused ride with strong edge hold on hardpack and variable snow, but it is not optimized for deep powder or surfy skiing.

Q: What terrain is it best for?
A: Best for firm snow, alpine touring routes, spring missions, and long objectives, where efficiency and stability matter more than flotation or playfulness.

Maintenance Tips
  • Wax the glide zones regularly to maintain fast, efficient travel on both skinless and skin-assisted touring, especially on the Objective’s lightweight sintered base.
  • Avoid over-waxing the traction (BC scale) area, as excess wax can reduce uphill grip and disrupt the ski’s kick-and-glide efficiency.
  • Clean the scaled base after each tour to remove dirt, ice, and wax buildup that can negatively affect performance on rolling terrain.
  • Dry skis thoroughly after use, focusing on edges and bindings to prevent rust and corrosion in mixed snow conditions.
  • Keep edges sharp but controlled, prioritizing reliable grip on firm snow without aggressively grinding into the scaled base area.
  • Repair base scratches early with P-Tex to protect the lightweight core and maintain consistent downhill stability.
  • Inspect binding mounts and hardware regularly, especially after rocky or long approaches where ultralight skis experience repeated stress.
  • Apply storage wax in the off-season and store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat to preserve base structure and performance longevity.
