Portable Winch Co. PCA-1216M2ESC Double-Braid Poly Rope w/ Two Eye Splices 1/2" x 656' - PW,PCA-1216M2ESC

For a better performance, always use Portable Winch Co. ropes with your winch. Its double-braided construction makes it durable and features low stretch for increased safety. Its low cost and resistance to abrasion make it a good choice for using with our capstan winches, where it is subject to friction and intense heat.

Splices with galvanized steel thimble are available on this rope. They provide protection against wear caused by carabiners, shackles and hooks attached at the end of the rope. In addition, a splice maintains almost 100% of the rope capacity, unlike a knot, which reduces its capacity by at least 30%.

Splices at both ends of the rope also allow it to be flipped over from time to time so it wears out evenly on its entire length.

Highly recommended for all lifting operations. Minimum Breaking Strength (MBS): 3,300 kg.

What our Experts Think
  • High-Strength Double-Braid Construction: Built from durable polyester fibers designed to handle demanding winch operations with excellent abrasion resistance and reliability.
  • Low-Stretch Performance for Safety: Engineered to maintain controlled load handling with minimal elongation, improving precision during pulling and lifting tasks.
  • Extended 656 ft Working Length: Provides long reach for forestry, recovery, and heavy-duty pulling applications where distance flexibility matters.
  • Reinforced Eye Splices on Both Ends: Factory-installed splices improve strength efficiency and help reduce wear at connection points compared to knotted rope setups.
  • Heavy-Duty Load Capacity: Rated for high breaking strength (around 7,275 lb MBS), making it suitable for professional winching systems.
  • Winch-Optimized Design: Specifically engineered for Portable Winch systems to ensure smooth feeding, reduced friction, and safer operation in capstan-style winches.
Q&A

Q: What is the Portable Winch PCA-1216M2ESC Double-Braid Poly Rope (1/2" x 656')?
A: A heavy-duty double-braided polyester rope designed for use with Portable Winch capstan systems, featuring high strength, low stretch, and durable construction for demanding pulling and lifting tasks.

Q: What is its length and diameter?
A: It measures 1/2 inch (12–13 mm) in diameter and 656 feet (200 meters) in length, making it suitable for long-distance winching applications.

Q: What is its strength rating?
A: It has a minimum breaking strength of approximately 7,275 lbs, providing reliable performance for heavy-duty winching operations.

Q: What does “double-braid” mean?
A: It means the rope is constructed with a braided core and braided cover, improving abrasion resistance, flexibility, and overall durability under friction and load.

Q: What are the eye splices for?
A: The factory-installed eye splices with thimbles protect attachment points from wear and help maintain near-full rope strength compared to knots, which can reduce capacity.

Q: What is it commonly used for?
A: It is used in forestry, utility work, construction, and rescue or lifting applications where controlled, high-tension pulling is required with a capstan winch system.

Q: Why choose the PCA-1216M2ESC rope?
A: It combines high tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and pre-spliced ends for safer, more efficient winching in professional-grade field operations.

Maintenance Tips
  • Inspect rope before and after each use for cuts, fraying, glazing, or abrasion damage.
  • Clean with mild soap and cold water; rinse thoroughly and air dry completely before storage.
  • Avoid contact with sharp edges, rough surfaces, or abrasive hardware that can weaken fibers.
  • Do not expose to heat sources, flames, or high friction that may melt or weaken the rope.
  • Store loosely coiled in a dry, cool, UV-protected area to prevent degradation from sunlight.
  • Keep away from chemicals, oils, and solvents that can reduce fiber strength.
  • Check eye splices regularly for tightening, distortion, or wear at load-bearing points.
  • Avoid overloading beyond rated working load limit to maintain safety and durability.
  • Rotate rope use periodically to distribute wear evenly along its length.
  • Retire rope immediately if significant damage, stiffness, or strength loss is observed
