Portable Winch PCW4000 PRO Series Gas-Powered Pulling Capstan Winch, Honda GX50 - PW,PCW4000

This model is a lightweight, reliable winch that stands out with a new feature that provides added control over the movement of loads - the quick release automatic anti-rollback mechanism, or ARM. Equipped with a centrifugal clutch, the drum does not immediately start turning at the start of the engine. After wrapping the rope on the drum a few times, insert it in the cam cleat, pass it on the exit guide and pull on it when the time comes. This engages the clutch and the winch starts pulling. Once the tension is released, the drum stops turning and the anti-rollback mechanism holds the load in position. Note: the ARM rope grabbing system cannot be installed on other pulling winches.

What our Experts Think
  • Flagship PRO-series performance – The PCW4000 is built around the Honda GX50 4-stroke engine, offering smooth, reliable power with full 360° operation in the field.
  • Industry-leading pulling force – Delivers up to 2,200 lb (1,000 kg) single-line pull, with capacity scaling up to 11,000 lb using pulley systems.
  • Advanced load control system – Features a centrifugal clutch + Progress Capture System (PCS) for automatic holding of loads when tension is released, improving safety and control.
  • Precision winching behavior – Pull-to-engage operation gives operators variable control based on rope tension, making it highly intuitive in demanding terrain.
  • Unlimited rope capability – Capstan design allows continuous rope length operation, ideal for long-distance forestry, rescue, and utility pulls.
  • Field-ready durability – Built with industrial-grade gearbox and reinforced drivetrain components designed for repetitive heavy-duty use in harsh environments.
  • Professional safety upgrade over entry models – The PCS anti-roll system reduces load slippage risk and improves secure mid-load handling compared to simpler winches.
  • Balanced power-to-portability design – Heavier than compact models but optimized for crews needing maximum control, safety, and sustained pulling power in remote work zones.

Q&A

Q: What is the Portable Winch PCW4000 PRO Series Gas-Powered Pulling Capstan Winch?
A: It is a professional-grade capstan winch powered by a Honda GX50 engine, designed for portable, high-force pulling in forestry, utility, construction, and recovery applications.

Q: What engine does it use?
A: It uses a Honda GX50 4-stroke, 49cc engine, known for reliability and the ability to operate at multiple angles (360° inclinable).

Q: What is the pulling capacity?
A: It delivers about 2,200 lb (1,000 kg) single-line pulling force, and up to 4,400 lb with a double-line setup using pulleys.

Q: Can it lift loads vertically?
A: No. It is designed for pulling only, not overhead lifting applications.

Q: How does the capstan system work?
A: A rope wraps around a rotating drum, using friction to generate continuous pulling power with no practical limit on rope length.

Q: What safety/control features does it have?
A: It includes a centrifugal clutch and an anti-roll-back / progress capture system, which holds the load when tension is released for safer control.

Q: How powerful is it compared to other Portable Winch models?
A: It sits in the middle of the lineup—more capable than entry models like the PCW3000 series, while remaining lighter and more portable than larger industrial units.

Q: Who is the PCW4000 best suited for?
A: It is ideal for forestry work, arborists, utility crews, hunters, and off-road recovery users who need strong pulling power in remote areas without relying on electricity or vehicles.

Maintenance Tips
  • Inspect capstan drum, rope, hooks, and anchor points before each use for wear, cracks, or deformation.
  • Clean winch after use to remove dirt, sap, and debris, especially around drum and clutch system.
  • Service engine (Honda GX50 Engine) regularly: check air filter, spark plug, and oil level (if applicable per model setup).
  • Use fresh fuel only; drain fuel tank for long storage to prevent carburetor blockage.
  • Check clutch engagement, throttle response, and safety controls for smooth operation before lifting/pulling.
  • Tighten all mounting bolts and frame connections periodically to maintain pulling stability.
  • Lightly lubricate moving metal parts as specified by manufacturer guidelines.
  • Store in a dry, covered area to protect from moisture, corrosion, and dust buildup.
