Powermatic 1285 12" Straight Knife Jointer

This 12" jointer offers big capacity and performance in a machine that is loaded with features. Large center-mounted fence assembly adjusts easily via rack and pinion system with ram lock. Preset stops on the fence body allow for fast angle set-up at 45° in and out, and a positive stop for perfect 90° angles.

The parallelogram design keeps the table in close proximity to the cutterhead for improved finish and allows for a fast depth of cut adjustment. This design also ensures the tables remain perfectly parallel even after years of tough duty. Choose either the standard three-knife cutterhead or the solid steel Helical cutterhead. The helical system makes fast work of knife changing and never needs adjustment.

Features
  • Large 12" x 84" precision ground cast iron table surface for heavy-duty work
  • Parallelogram design for close table-to-cutterhead proximity and fast depth of cut adjustments
  • Rack and pinion adjustable cast iron fence assembly for smooth fence positioning without play
  • Straight knife cutterhead with 3 high speed steel knives create a clean cut
  • Table "lips" on both sides of cutterhead aid in noise reduction

Maintenance Tips
  • Regular Cleaning

    • Wipe down the table and fence regularly to remove dust, wood chips, and debris.
    • Use a vacuum or compressed air to clean out the dust collection system and surrounding areas to prevent clogs.
  • Inspect and Maintain Straight Knives:

    • Periodically inspect the straight knives for dullness or damage. Rotate or replace them as necessary to maintain cutting precision.
    • Ensure the knives are properly aligned with the cutterhead for even cutting and smooth operation.
  • Lubricate Parallelogram Mechanism and Bed:

    • Apply a light lubricant to the parallelogram mechanism and bed rails to ensure smooth height adjustments.
    • Check that the table height adjustment system operates freely, and adjust handles as needed.
  • Check and Adjust the Fence:

    • Inspect the fence for proper alignment with the table. Ensure the fence is securely locked in place during operation.
    • Clean the fence and inspect for any damage, adjusting it to maintain square alignment with the table.
  • Motor and Electrical Inspection:

    • Ensure the motor is securely mounted and running smoothly without excessive vibration or noise.
    • Inspect electrical components for any signs of wear or damage, and verify proper function of the power switch.
  • Dust Collection System Maintenance:

    • Check the dust collection port and hose for blockages. Clean out the system as needed to ensure optimal dust extraction.
    • Empty the dust collection container regularly to prevent overfilling and ensure efficient operation.
  • Check Table Alignment:

    • Periodically inspect the infeed and outfeed tables for levelness and ensure they are parallel to the cutterhead for smooth cuts.
    • Adjust the tables as necessary to maintain proper alignment and precision.
  • Tighten Loose Bolts and Fasteners:
