Backwoods Adventure Toyota Tacoma Rock Sliders 2nd & 3rd Gen (2005-2023) -BWTT-0523

Introducing our 2nd & 3rd gen Toyota Tacoma Rock Sliders. The Short Bed models fit 2005-2023 Double Cab Short Bed and the Access Cab Long beds in both 4WD and 2WD. The Long Bed models fit 2005-2023 Double Cab Long Beds. These sliders give you superior rocker panel protection while also giving you the functionality of a step. At 0 degrees, these sliders still tuck up close to the body of your truck, giving you great ground clearance and peace of mind. The kickout (flared end of the slider) allows the rear of your vehicle to act as a pivot point, pushing the rear tire away from a rock or tree. Plus, it can be used as a wide step for accessing gear on top of your truck. Lastly, DOM tubing is some of the strongest steel material available, commonly used on high end sliders. These sliders can easily hold the weight of the entire vehicle and will give you ultimate protection on the trail.

What our Experts Think
  • True frame-mounted rocker protection for Tacoma platforms – The BWTT-0523 rock sliders are designed for 2005–2023 Toyota Tacoma (2nd & 3rd Gen), replacing weak factory steps with full DOM steel, bolt-on rock armor that protects the entire rocker panel.
  • Dual-purpose step + trail slider design – Experts highlight the 0° tight-tuck geometry, which keeps the sliders close to the body for clearance while still functioning as a wide, usable step for daily access and roof rack loading.
  • Heavy-duty DOM steel construction – Built from 1.75” DOM tubing with gusseted corners and reinforced mounts, giving it the strength to handle vehicle-weight-level impacts on rocks, ledges, and trail obstacles.
  • Kickout geometry for trail control – The rear kickout is engineered to deflect obstacles away from rear tires while doubling as a pivot point in tight terrain, improving maneuverability on technical trails.
  • Bolt-on, frame-mounted installation – No welding required; the system uses OEM frame mounting points and grade 8 hardware, making it a strong but accessible upgrade for DIY builds.
  • Integrated aluminum top plate detail – Adds a flat stepping surface and corrosion-resistant contact layer, improving usability for daily driving and overland gear access.
  • Overland-ready durability mindset – Experts generally position this as a “buy once, wheel hard” component, ideal for overlanding, rock crawling, and remote travel where side-impact protection matters.

Q&A

Q: What are the Backwoods Adventure Toyota Tacoma Rock Sliders (BWTT-0523) for 2005–2023?
A: Heavy-duty, frame-mounted rock sliders designed for 2nd & 3rd Gen Toyota Tacoma trucks that protect rocker panels from off-road damage while also functioning as a sturdy side step.

Q: What is their main purpose?
A: They prevent damage to the truck’s rocker panels during off-road driving and allow the vehicle to slide over rocks, logs, and obstacles instead of getting hung up.

Q: What are they made of?
A: Built from 1.75” DOM steel tubing with gusseted corners for high strength and impact resistance, plus a durable powder-coated finish.

Q: Do they also work as steps?
A: Yes. The flat top plate provides a functional step for entering the cab or accessing roof-mounted gear.

Q: How are they mounted?
A: They are 100% bolt-on and attach directly to the truck’s frame for maximum strength and off-road durability.

Q: Do they improve off-road performance?
A: Yes. The 0° tight-to-body design improves ground clearance, while the rear kickout helps pivot the truck off obstacles and protects the rear body.

Maintenance Tips
  • Wash after every off-road trip: Remove mud, salt, and sand from tubes, welds, and frame mounts to prevent corrosion
  • Re-torque mounting bolts regularly: Especially after installation, hard trail hits, or repeated body-on-rock contact
  • Inspect welds and slider rails: Check for cracks, bends, or deformation after impacts with rocks or obstacles
  • Protect powder coat finish: Touch up chips or scratches early—lower edges are most exposed to trail damage
  • Clear trapped debris: Remove packed dirt between frame contact points and slider mounts to avoid moisture buildup
  • Check frame alignment points: Ensure sliders remain tight and evenly seated on both sides
  • Avoid pressure washing directly into seams: Prevents forcing grit into mounting interfaces
  • Seasonal deep inspection: Verify all hardware tightness and structural integrity before long overland trips
  • Optional corrosion protection: Light rust inhibitor helps in coastal or winter/salt environments
