Heat & Glo GFK-160A Blower Fan Kit - GFK-160A

The GFK-160A Blower Fan Kit works for Quadrafire, Heatilator, Heat & Glo and other Hearth & Home fireplaces. This Blower Fan kit comes with a rheostat and snap disc. The rheostat is a variable speed switch like a light dimmer that adjusts your heat and shuts the blower fan on and off. The Snap Disc  turns the blower fan on once the fireplace is warm enough and back off once it is sufficiently cooled. The blower fan blows the hot air created by the fireplace into your living area.

What our Experts Think
  • Purpose-built heat boost accessory: The Heat & Glo GFK-160A is an OEM blower fan kit designed to circulate warm air from compatible Heat & Glo fireplaces into the room, improving overall heating efficiency and comfort.
  • Better heat distribution (not more flame heat): Instead of increasing flame output, it moves heated air away from the firebox and into your living space, making the fireplace feel significantly warmer and more effective.
  • Smart automatic operation: Includes a temperature sensor (snap disc/thermodisc) that turns the blower on once the fireplace reaches operating heat and shuts it off when it cools down.
  • Adjustable airflow control: A built-in variable speed rheostat (like a dimmer switch) lets users fine-tune fan speed for quieter operation or stronger heat circulation.
  • Efficient convection support: Rated around 160 CFM airflow, helping distribute heat more evenly across medium-sized rooms instead of letting it escape up the chimney structure.
  • Easy retrofit installation: Designed as a plug-and-play kit for many Heat & Glo and Hearth & Home fireplaces, typically installed inside the firebox base or junction compartment.
  • Expert takeaway: A practical upgrade for gas fireplaces that feel “decorative only”—it doesn’t change the fire, but it dramatically improves usable room heat by actively circulating warmth where you actually feel it.
Q&A

Q: What is the Heat & Glo GFK-160A?
A: A universal fireplace blower fan kit designed to circulate warm air from Heat & Glo and compatible fireplaces into the room for improved heat distribution.

Q: What does it do?
A: It pulls heat from around the firebox and pushes it into your living space, increasing overall heating efficiency and comfort.

Q: Is it compatible with Heat & Glo fireplaces?
A: Yes, it is commonly used with Heat & Glo, Heatilator, Quadra-Fire, and other Hearth & Home Technologies fireplaces.

Q: What controls does it include?
A: It comes with a variable speed control (rheostat) and a temperature sensor (thermodisc) that automatically turns the blower on when the fireplace heats up and off when it cools down.

Q: What are its key specs?
A: It operates on 115V power, delivers around 160–165 CFM airflow, and uses a ball-bearing motor for quiet, durable performance.

Q: Does it require installation inside the fireplace?
A: Yes, it is typically mounted in the fireplace’s lower compartment with included brackets and hardware for vibration-reducing installation.

Q: Is it noisy?
A: It includes variable speed control so you can adjust airflow and reduce noise as needed.

Q: What is included in the kit?
A: Blower motor, speed control, thermal sensor switch, wiring harness, mounting hardware, and power cord (varies slightly by version).

Maintenance Tips
  • Turn off power before servicing to avoid electrical shock during inspection or cleaning.
  • Keep blower and surrounding area dust-free by periodically vacuuming to prevent debris buildup that can reduce airflow efficiency.
  • Inspect fan blades and motor annually for dust accumulation, vibration, or unusual noise.
  • Ensure wiring connections are secure and not exposed to heat or sharp edges inside the fireplace compartment.
  • Check speed control operation to confirm smooth adjustment of airflow without flickering or failure.
  • Verify thermal switch function (automatic ON/OFF around operating temperature) for proper cycling behavior.
  • Do not obstruct airflow vents around the blower to maintain optimal heat circulation performance.
  • Schedule periodic professional inspection if the fireplace is used heavily to ensure safe long-term operation.
