What our Experts Think
  • Smooth & Professional Surface Finish – The RIKON 13″ Portable Planer with Helical‑Style Cutterhead (Model 25‑135H) delivers a smoother finish and less tear‑out than standard straight‑blade bench planers thanks to its 6‑row helical cutter head with 26 high‑speed steel indexable inserts.

  • Efficient Two‑Speed Feed – Dual feed rates let users choose faster material removal or a finer finish, giving flexibility for rough stock or final passes.

  • Stable & Portable Design – Threaded four‑post housing and fold‑up infeed/outfeed tables offer improved stability and support for longer boards while keeping the unit relatively lightweight and easy to reposition.

  • Precision & Control Features – The repeat cut lever and top‑mounted thickness scale help achieve consistent thickness with each pass, and quick blade access makes insert changing fast and user‑friendly.

  • Dust Collection Ready – Includes 4″ or 2‑1/2″ dust port options so you can connect to a collector or shop vacuum to keep your workspace cleaner.

  • Expert Verdict – A capable and versatile portable planer that balances professional‑grade performance with benchtop convenience, ideal for hobbyists and small shops looking for smoother cuts and easy handling.

Maintenance Tips
  • Clean After Each Use: Remove wood chips and dust from the cutter head, infeed/outfeed tables, and housing to prevent buildup that affects performance.

  • Inspect Cutter Inserts: Check helical cutter head inserts for wear or damage and replace them promptly to maintain smooth, tear-free cuts.

  • Lubricate Moving Parts: Apply light machine oil to adjustment screws, depth controls, and bearings as needed to ensure smooth operation.

  • Check Drive Belts: Inspect belts for wear or slack and adjust or replace as necessary to maintain consistent cutter speed.

  • Protect Cast-Iron Surfaces: Apply a thin coat of paste wax to infeed/outfeed tables and fence to prevent rust and allow smooth stock movement.

  • Disconnect Power Before Maintenance: Always unplug the planer before cleaning, adjusting, or replacing inserts.
