Since the YAS480 alto is compatible with Custom Yamaha necks, the redesigned octave key system lets you choose between the included 62-style neck and those designed for the Custom Z and Custom EX Yamaha saxophones (sold separately). The new 62-style neck has been designed for improved tone and response.

As all saxophonists know, the left hand pinky finger can get a good workout on the spatula keys without much effort. That's one reason why the left-hand seesaw key on the YAS480 alto has been designed to increase playability and provide a more comfortable feel.

To promote a clear response from notes in the low range of the instrument, Yamaha improved the mechanism from low B-C# to ensure the consistent closing of the low C# key. As an added benefit, the separate key guards feature adjustable screw cap stoppers for professional-style technical adjustments.
